All About Israel’s Greatest Spectacle, Carmen at Masada
Relax, forget your troubles and enjoy hearing about what is arguably Israel’s greatest spectacle. The annual Opera Festival is staged at the foot of mount Masada, the lowest place on earth. There are some 800 artists including the cast, the musicians, flamenco dancers and choirs performing Carmen by Georges Bizet on a 3.500 square meter stage in front of nightly audiences of 7,500. Ten live horses and seven donkeys are also walking on the hills, manually created from 10,000 cubic meters of sand, with the backdrop of the floodlit Masada rock. A truly magical setting recreating the atmosphere of 19th century Spain in which a woman like Carmen was extraordinary.
