Hour 1
We are in the week leading up to the 28th October, when in 1938 the Nazi persecution of Jews went up a gear with the deportation of Polish Jews, which caused an event that led to Kristallnacht on November 10th, the worst pogrom before the Holocaust. So we begin with a walk through the Holocaust Museum at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem. We begin with life in Europe before the Shoah and move chronologically through the period of the Holocaust to liberation. We visit the Memorial Hall with its constant flame.
From there we enter the new Hall of Names and hear from the Director how they record the details of the victims. I then take you to the totally dark, most emotional Children’s Memorial.

Hour 2 We begin this hour with a visit to the Garden of the Righteous Gentiles. The archives and documentation building is one of the pillars of Yad Vashem and its Director explains the work that goes on there. But the raison d’’etre, the cornerstone of Yad Vashem is education and we are told about that important aspect by the Director of Yad Vashem’s International School for Holocaust Study. Individual Jews are not mentioned anywhere here, but the more than 5,000 destroyed Jewish communities are individually recorded in the monumental Valley of the Communities inspired by the valley of the dry bones; you will feel the atmosphere. The story of the rescue to Sweden of thousands of Jews, just weeks before the end of the war, is recorded by one of the white busses in which they travelled, standing in the grounds, where there are also a number of monuments commemorating various events of the period and also the fighters and we hear about them in detail. * To download the mp3 of Hour 2 click the down arrow or click here (right click and Save Target As.)
