Jonty Zwebner grew up in Rhodesia (which is now Zimbabwe) as the son of the town's rabbi. Raised to understand that they were to make Aliyah after high school, Jonty followed his older siblings to Israel. Adjustment was not easy. Hebrew was not a language the rabbi's son learned to speak. Nonetheless, Jonty hung on, and even learned in a Haredi yeshiva in Jerusalem, though his entrepreneurial talents were the ones which stood out most. After a number of years in the banking and finance industry, Jonty realized he wanted to make a difference in the world. After hearing Ben Zion Solomon perform for the occasion of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach's yahrtzeit, Jonty invited the talented musician to Beit Shemesh, where he was blown away by the talents of Ben Zion's sons, soon-to-become the Moshav Band. In honor of his wife's birthday, Jonty rented out a clubhouse on a kibbutz for a musical event. That blossomed into a career of managing a number of good Israeli rock musicians. Next, Jonty created the now famous Beit Shemesh Rock and Soul Festival.
His newest project? One Song World, where talented musicians, even the unheard-of ones can create a showcase for their music, in almost any language. Jonty Zwebner is still going strong, with many more plans for a musical future!
