'Journey to Heaven, Exploring Jewish Views of the Afterlife' is the newest book by professor Dr. Leila Leah Bronner.  She demonstrates how generations of Jews have grappled with belief in resurrection, immortality, judgement, messianism and the World to Come.  Bronner is an unusual combination; a religious woman who is a brilliant academic scholar, a Professor of Bible and Jewish History so incredibly well versed in Bible, and also deeply rooted in Kabbalistic thought from her childhood home.  Apocrypha and other extant books are also discussed in this comprehensive survey.  Fascinating and very accessible.   Urim publications.

Rabbi Mois Navon explores the portion of the week using Freud and other resources to help shed new light on the ancient text.  This week's explanation of Jacob's Ladder as reflecting both the ambition and fear of the father of the twelves tribes is very compelling.  www.divreinavon.comfor his collection of essays on a variety of topics.
