The years of the British Mandate over Palestine included the two decades between the World Wars, the Holocaust, and then finally in 1948, Israeli independence.  Prescient Jews tried to save European Jewry by creating a homeland before the slaughter, and naturally there were different methods and opinions on how to do so.  One of the underground movements was the Lehi, or Stern Gang, led by Avraham Stern, aka 'Yair'.  Zev Golan has now published a thoroughly researched book on Stern and the men who joined him in fighting the British even though the Brits were engaging the Germans.  A fascinating time with larger than life people who understood how much was riding on their actions.  A must read for all who are enthralled with the story of the creation of Israel.  'Stern: The Man and His Gang', available now. http://gefenpublishing.com/product.asp?productid=985
