This week we are joined in the studio by guest host Jim Long. In the first hour, we meet Prof. Matt Goldish of Ohio State University. We get to know the subject of his doctoral dissertation - Sir Isaac Newton. Prof. Goldish (Ohio State University) shares his insight and research into one of history's most fascinating characters - and his deep interest in discovering the underlying "natural law " - including a deep fascination with the Mishna, Talmud, Maimonides and the Noahide Laws.

In the second hour (first segment) we meet Rabbi Shmuel Veffer. He's an early pioneer of computer technology - but more importantly he's been manning the front lines of connecting the Jews of the diaspora to the Land of Israel. He was an early part of the thinking into Foundation Stone, and is now working to provide a home and a context for Jewish people from the diaspora to own and build a home in the Land.

In the final segment we have the honor of learning about Rosh Hashana (the Jewish New Year) from a preeminent educator - Rabbi Dov Berkowitz. He provides a fundamental and well articulated insight into the unique two-day nature (both in Israel and the diaspora) of the holiday, and reveals some of the underlying ideas surrounding this important day in the Jewish calendar.

Next week (September 8, 2010), LandMinds will not be onair as we will be celebrating Rosh Hashana. We want to wish all of our listeners a healthy, prosperous, and edifying New Year... Shana Tova - Barnea, Dovid (and Jim).

LandMinds broadcasts live at www.israelnationalradio.com every Wednesday from 5-7pm Israel time, 3-5pm in the UK, and 10-12am EST.
