Hour 1
Now there's no excuse not to get off that couch, see Israel and exercise, too. Chaim Wizeman has opened a store called Al Derech Burma ( "On the Burma Road ") that caters to sports enthusiasts who want the best equipment for their respective sport. Biking, running, camping and other gear can be purchased or rented. Guides, advice, maps and path suggestions for group and individual trips are also available. Chaim has also drawn on his eclectic background to bring kids of varying backgrounds together to foster friendships and relationships thru physical activity. He's a great example of a Western oleh who didn't find what he needed in Israel but instead of
complaining, he made it happen. Lots more to be done, folks! www.alderechburma.com
Dr. Aren Maeir is wrapping up the 2010 dig at the ancient Philistine city of Gath. (Think Goliath's home team). The field of archaeology has become very cutting edge and multi-disciplinary, bringing in specialists in botany, zoology and other schools to study the material culture of a long gone nation. This year's finds include a Philistine temple, perhaps similar to the one Samson brought down, and clear evidence of the massive earthquake prophecized about by Amos. Israel, where the Bible and history meet like no where else in the world. www.gath.wordpress.com
