This week's Torah portion connects the People of Israel with the Good Land of Israel. The Torah teaches us that the Land is good, and if we follow G-d's laws, the Land is ours. Our bond with the Holy Land of Israel effects the way we interact with nature, with agriculture and with the environment. There are agricultural laws that teach us to care for the poor and to be good to our workers. Other laws teach us to connect to Hashem by working the land. And: Anita Tucker tells a story which only a Jewish farmer in the Land of Israel could tell. Then: Rabbi Shaul David Yudelman, director of the Ecological Beit Midrash in Jerusalem, shares his Torah thoughts about taking care of the Land while taking care of the world.
