Old City changes are in the air! Barnea reviews a series of recent developments in Jerusalem's Old City – rebuilding the Hurva Synagogue, the new elevator from the Western Wall plaza up to the Jewish Quarter, excavating the Second Temple period city under the Western Wall plaza, and more. The upcoming 3 weeks of weekend festivals (which observe the Sabbath) are worth coming for, with discounts at hotels, free entrance from 9pm to 2am at museums with concerts and performances, and a grand food festival. www.jerusalem.muni.il.

Rabbi Yisrael Ariel of the Temple Treasures Institute just published the first of a planned six volume mapped history of Israel. it has not yet been announced! The level of research and scholarship and the attention to detail, the specially prepared maps, are perhaps unsurpassed. “Otzar Eretz Yisrael- Vol. I – Yesodot veCheker-” can be bought for 129 shekels at the store on Misgav Ladach Street, or by contacting http://www.jerusalem-temple.com/?CategoryID=155

Sometimes no one is doing anything, the situation calls for action, and you step up to the plate. LandMinds interviews two such individuals.

Aharon Pulver and friends, seeing an erosion of the Jewish character of Israeli society, founded the Israel Independence Fund.

Organizations and projects that address protection of Jewish lives, building Jewish businesses like construction, protecting and aiding Jewish farmers, cattle raisers and shepherds, and the care of historical sites like Peqi'in, all receive services and support through the IIF.

We talk about the importance of Peqi'in and reversing the neglect, which connects to our new Power of the Place Segment 4 presentation.  See http://fundisrael.org/ and contact Aharon at fund5708@gmail.com.

What is it like to live in the city of Shilo in the shadow of the Tabernacle site; to plant and grow grapes in the hills of Ephraim?

Era Rapaport describes the wondrous feelings of growing a bountiful harvest and thanking Heaven for it, with opportunities to do much more.

For a tour with Era, or to discuss vineyards and wine, olives and olive oil, contact Era at eraorit@netvision.net.il.

Our all new Power of the Place program!

Each week, barring special guests and circumstances, LandMinds will choose a site as our focus. We will discuss its history, opportunities for visitation and involvement, and seek when possible to conduct related interviews.

Peqi'in is nestled on the west side of Mount Meron, a picturesque village if there ever was one- where historians say Jews have lived since the time of the Second Temple, or at least, since the Bar Cochba revolt.

Peqi'in is most famous for the cave where Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai hid out with his son for 12 years and 12 months, fed by a carob tree and a spring. You can visit the tree, the spring, and the ancient synagogue today.

Moreshet Galil HaElyon, directed by Naftali Frydman, have an educational division serving thousands of soldiers each year. For tourists they run wonderful programs and tours during the week and on Shabbat. Contact Naftali at moreshet2@bezeqint.net.

Foundation Stone runs regular tours of Second Temple Period Jerusalem on Friday mornings, and is beginning regular City of David Tours. Write selavan@netvision.net.il.

During excavation season programs are run at Yavne, www.telyavne.com, scheduled for June- July 2010 and other sites. Foundation Stone offers seminars and programs for communities and schools throughout the world.

See www.foundationstone.org to hear earlier broadcasts and learn more about our programs. Thank you for listening!
