A Walter’s World two hour special investigation into the ongoing painful debate around Jewish divorce. The leading Rabbinical Court of Jerusalem claims that Halacha,Jewish Law restricts their powers to grant a divorce to a woman against her husbands will, because he has an indisputable right to veto; so she has to remain chained until his conditions, sometimes of blackmail, are met. Women’s organizations on the other hand argue that Halacha does allow overriding a husband’s recalcitrance. What next? Hear a Rabbi’s view, and that of a trained orthodox woman Lawyer’s suggested solution. Also: listen to the illuminating story of a chained woman.
