Foundation Stone reviews the closing of the Elah Fortress 2009 excavation season and the work for the coming year. What happens when the diggers go home? The real gains from the excavation come from the scientific analysis and publication of the results and informing the broader world of its value and import. In our next segment, we interview Shai bar Tura who works as the Deputy Director of the Theft Prevention Unit of the Israel Antiquities Authority. He talks about the need to protect Israel's historic legacy, and the new campaign recently launched by the IAA to document private collections. At the top of the second hour Bar Ilan epigrapher professor Aharon Demsky talks about the recent Names Convention. In addition Prof. Demsky talks about the meaning and significance of alphabetic writing, and shares the origins and developments that led to the birth of recorded history. In our final segment we talk with Prof. Yigal Levin - also of Bar Ilan University, and of Ariel University Center, who shares his expertise on historical geography, identification of site names, and the preservation of history over time... Barnea Levi Selavan is a native of Pittsburgh, PA. He has worked in public relations, primarily for the Jerusalem Reclamation Project in the Old City of Jerusalem. Barnea received rabbinic ordination from the late Rabbi Y. Ruderman, and is a sought-after lecturer as well as a successful tour guide and educator. He specializes in Jerusalem's Old City and the Western Wall excavations, and is the author of the successful book, “Tzaddik's Guide to Jerusalem's Old City.” Barnea lives in the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem with his wife and children. Dovid Willner grew up on the fringe of Hollywood. He earned an MA Ed. from Loyola Marymount University, specializing in Marriage Family and Child Counseling, and has worked extensively in informal Jewish education. Dovid studied at the Hebrew Institute of California, and directed programs for NCSY, JCCA, the Jewish Federation Council of Greater Los Angeles, and the Jewish Agency in Israel. He is the founder of Mountain High Productions, a company providing graphic design and media consulting and production, bringing a wealth of experience in media and education to Foundation Stone's ongoing activities.
