The left-wing Association for Civil Rights in Israel denounced the law approved by the cabinet Sunday regulating the courts' ability to strike down Knesset legislation, calling it "a mortal wound to democracy and a recipe for dictatorship of the majority."

"If the Knesset approves the proposed amendment, this will not only damage the status and authority of the court, but will also meaningfully decrease the limited constitutional protection of human rights."
