The August flight is the only organized mission of American Jews to Israel during the period of the implementation of the government's Disengagement Plan, which calls for the forced evacuation of the Jews of Gush Katif and northern Samaria. The partially subsidized flight is not affiliated with any group, movement or religious outlook, organizers say.

Supporting the flight are Chabad-Lubavitch, Rabbi Y. Shwei of the Crown Heights religious court, Igud HaRabbanim and Rabbi A. Hecht, the Committee to Save the Land, Manhigut Yehudit (the Jewish Leadership faction in the Likud), Americans for a Safe Israel, the rabbinical Pikuach Nefesh organization and Heart to Heart.

The solidarity mission is to last from August 7 through August 22.

Organizers of the flight said that participants will "have the merit... [of] being with our brothers in Eretz Yisrael before and during the planned 'expulsion', God forbid." In addition, organizers say, "It is important that, as American Jews, we demonstrably show the world that we oppose the expulsion via our presence and voices."
