(IsraelNN.com) The police announced today that they had located several collections of tires near intersections targeted for blocking. Hundreds of policemen deployed as early as noon time at key junctions to try and head off the road-blockers. Some activists said that this in itself reflected a victory for the cause, as it shows that policemen can be occupied and diverted from disengagement activities.

    Incident Outside Mitzpeh Yericho
For the past week, residents of Mitzpeh Yericho have begun holding an afternoon prayer service at the nearby Jordan Valley Highway junction, with posted signs reading, "Dear Driver, When Gush Katif is closed off, so will this intersection. Apologies."

Yesterday, plainclothed policemen arrived on the scene and began a violent chase after young protestors. Moshe Eyal, one of the organizers, recounted, "The car drove wildly toward a group of children holding signs and started chasing them, endangering the youths' lives in the process. One of the policemen opened the car door in mid-pursuit and tried to grab one of the boys, calling out, 'You wanted violence, you'll get it.' ... In the end, he managed to catch one of the boys, a 10-year-old. But then the others, seeing that their friend was caught, came to his rescue and managed to free him. It should be noted that children under 12 are not allowed to be arrested... This type of behavior by the police should shock all of us; it certainly shocked me... But we will continue to stand at the intersection every day as a protest against the Prime Minister's intentions."

    Hevron
Noam Federman of Hevron, who has been under house arrest since last month and until September 1, was arrested this morning and taken for interrogation. "The police are in hysteria and the GSS has run amuck," he said in response. "Good morning Iran." His wife Elisheva said that she has no information on when he will be allowed to return home, or the nature of possible suspicions against him.

    N'vei Dekalim
In Gush Katif's largest community, N'vei Dekalim, a 19-year-old bicyclist named Yehuda was pulled over yesterday and ordered into a car. He was then taken to the nearby police station for interrogation, where the police informed him that he was charged with vandalizing tractors, electric poles and a police car. They said that witnesses had identified him, and that he would have to remain under house arrest for five days. Yehuda demanded to see the witnesses, said he had no idea of what they were talking about, and said that they had no right to confine him to his home without a court order. The police then released him without restrictions.
