    Bitter Passover For Noam Federman

(IsraelNN.com) Despite the holiday festivities in Hevron, all was not so bright for at least one Hevron resident and activist: Administrative detainee Noam Federman was not even allowed by prison authorities to conduct a Passover seder in his cell. He is now into his second consecutive six-month term in jail without being charged with a crime. A long-time 'target' of the Jewish [nationalist] section of the Shabak [General Security Service], Federman was prohibited from bringing hot food, a Passover Haggadah [liturgical book], or Passover utensils into his quarters. His daily fare for the holiday: Two matzas and a small portion of chicken, mashed potato, and vegetables.

"The Prison Service says it received orders to this effect from above," Federman's wife Elisheva told Arutz-7's Yosef Meiri today, "while the Shabak itself told the court two weeks ago that it has not given any orders to treat him so punitively. They just brazenly lie! And both of them promised the Knesset committee last week that he would be moved to the religious wing - but not a thing has been done. They answer to no one." Elisheva, who had just gotten off the phone with her husband, said that he did not sound bitter: "This is not what will break him. Their small-minded and petty attempts to break him won't change his ideals."

A petition on Federman's behalf can be signed at "www.petitiononline.com/federman/petition.html", and faxes of protest can be sent to Defense Minister Mofaz at 03 (from abroad: +9723)-6976218. "These efforts are welcome, but not sufficient," Federman's wife Elisheva said. "A massive public outcry against this injustice is needed."
