Senior Wanted Terrorist Taken

First Publish: 12/21/2003, 4:21 PM

IDF forces arrested several terrorists in early-morning activity in Shechem - including the spokesman for Hamas in Judea and Samaria. The terrorist in question, Adnan Asfour, was the most senior of the still-wanted Hamas terrorists in Yesha. Arutz-7's Kobi Finkler reports that the operation was carried out peacefully; Asfour gave himself up after the forces surrounded the house in which he was hiding and called upon the occupants to come out.

IDF officials have said that a widespread terrorist infrastructure exists in Shechem, although IDF forces dealt it a large blow last week. The army's offensive will therefore continue for several more days. In Ramallah, 16 wanted terrorists were arrested over the weekend.

Four mortar shells were fired against the Jewish towns of Gush Katif last this morning, and another one was fired at the northern Gaza town of Dugit. No one was hurt and no damage was caused.
