In an operation known as "Tzlil Mechuvan" - "Tuned Tone" - IDF troops entered and surrounded several PA cities late last night and early this morning, searching for Palestinian terrorists and blowing up their homes. It comes in reaction to Tuesday night's bus bombing in Jerusalem that killed 20 people, including five Americans.

Infantry and tanks entered the kasba area of Shechem, and surrounded Ramallah and Jenin. Six Arabs wanted for terrorist activity were arrested in the Jenin area, and the homes of at least four terrorists who succeeded in perpetrating attacks were destroyed.

The security cabinet - comprising Prime Minister Sharon, Defense Minister Mofaz, and Ministers Olmert, Lapid, and Shalom - warned the PA leadership, for the umpteenth time, that there would be no diplomatic progress before the PA takes resolute action against the the Islamic terrorist organizations. The above five ministers will determine the extent of the military activity.

The U.S. does not appear to be pressuring Israel to restrict its military response, and has even warned the PA that Israel will fight the terrorists if the PA does not.

Arabs in the PA fired a mortar shell at Israeli troops in Gush Katif and gunfire in Tul Karem. No one was hurt, and IDF soldiers returned fire.
