Fighting Terror

First Publish: 6/24/2003, 8:01 PM

A large-scale IDF operation netted no fewer than 130 wanted terrorists in Hevron last night, essentially uprooting the entire Hamas infrastructure in the city. Arutz-7's Kobi Finkler reports that IDF forces also made important arrests in Shechem, Ramallah, Bethlehem and elsewhere. Among those taken into custody was a Fatah-Tanzim terrorist responsible for several shooting attacks in the Ramallah area.

IDF forces demolished the home last night of Galal Mahmid, an Islamic Jihad terrorist. He attempted in February 2002 to drive a car-bomb into the Nachal I'ron area between Hadera and Afula, but it exploded before he reached the Mei-Ami checkpoint leading to the area.

Four terrorists were apprehended by IDF troops in the northern Shomron near Sa-Nur yesterday following a shooting attack. Immediately after the gunfire rang out, soldiers identified the home from which the shooting originated, and launched a pursuit after the terrorists. Three of the four taken into custody were armed, but other terrorists managed to escape.

The bomb detected earlier near Rafiach Yam in Gaza yesterday was another booby-trapped bicycle laden with explosives - the second such bicycle in a few days. Alert security troops noticed the suspicious bomb at the Hila Crossing used by Arab laborers, and blew it up before it could take Jewish life.
