Noam Liebowitz, the 7-year-old girl who was murdered last night on the Trans-Israel highway, was buried this afternoon. The funeral set out at 1:30 from the synagogue in the Yemin Orde Youth Village, and she was laid to rest in Moshav Nir Etzion, south of Haifa. Her sister Shira, 3, who was seriously wounded in the shooting attack, was operated on in Schneider Children's Hospital in Petach Tikvah. Her condition is stable and she is conscious. Her grandfather and another brother were lightly wounded, and were released from the hospital over night. The children's parents and uncle were also in the car at the time.

Voice of Palestine radio today described the murder of seven-year-old Noam, which took place inside pre-1967 Israel, as "the death by shooting of a female Israeli settler". Meanwhile, the Al-Aksa Martyrs Brigade, the military wing of Yasser Arafat's Fatah terrorist organization, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) have claimed responsibility for the attack.

Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom said today that Tuesday night's terrorist shooting shows the Palestinian Authority has not yet made the necessary strategic decision to dismantle the terrorist groups and round up their weapons. Shalom said he is expecting the Americans and the international community to pressure the Palestinians to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure and to confront these groups in the territories. Shalom made the comments during a meeting with EU envoy Miguel Moratinos.

The Tuesday night attack was the first of its kind on the Trans-Israel highway, Israel's first toll road. Preliminary investigations show that though the road is protected by the new "partition wall," the terrorists crawled under it via a narrow drainage pipe. The pipe was covered by a netted screen that they had to cut.

Professors for a Strong Israel released a statement this morning decrying the concept of the "partition wall." The statement reads,"The latest terrorist murder took place on the Trans-Israel Highway, between Kalkilya and Kfar Sava, where the 'Separation Fence' is complete (and higher than anywhere else). Professors for a Strong Israel again calls on the Prime Minister to awake, to cease these negotiations under fire with the Dahlans, Barghoutis, and Yassins, and to halt the headlong flight back to the Green Line. The attack demonstrates, painfully and unsurprisingly, that neither the Road Map, nor a general withdrawal, nor the wasteful and unnecessary separation fence will stop the enemy from seeking his goal: ethnic cleansing of the Jewish people from every part of Israel. How far will the Prime
Minister go in setting up a terrorist state with territorial contiguity? After the unmanned 'outposts', after the small settlements, will he proceed to destroy settlements such as Kochav Yair and Eyal, in order to establish contiguity from Kalkilya to Tira and Taibeh?"
