Three Arabs from eastern Jerusalem, all 19 years of age, were arrested by police yesterday for telephoning the police dispatcher and reporting that a terrorist attack was about to occur in the Machane Yehuda marketplace in Jerusalem. One of the three actually left his name with the dispatcher several days ago, saying that he was going to perpetrate a suicide bombing. Police managed to track down the three and they were taken into custody. They told investigators they were just "kidding around."
In more serious news related to Arab terrorism by telephone, security officials have learned that senior Fatah Tanzim leader Marwan Barghouti,
who remains in an Israeli prison, managed to smuggle a cellular telephone into his cell. He apparently used it to continue his former activities and to make contact with associates, including Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mahmoud (Abu Mazen) Abbas.
