      The American Threats Against Israel

      First Publish: 5/28/2003, 8:22 PM

World Tribune.Com reports today that the Bush administration has prepared a list of sanctions against Israel in case it refuses to comply with a plan for a Palestinian state by the end of the year. The article, quoting U.S. government and Congressional sources, states that the list was prepared by the State Department and relayed to the National Security Council in April - and that it includes an "examination" of the use of U.S. weapons in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza, as well as the suspension of $9 billion in U.S. emergency aid - $8 billion in loan guarantees and $1 billion in a military grant.

Explaining why the Administration is so "angry" at Israel regarding delays in the Road Map plan, a congressional source close to the administration said that the White House "doesn't regard the roadmap merely as foreign policy. It sees the roadmap as a major element toward the re-election of the president."

The sources said that Israel's acceptance this week of the Road Map - albeit with 14 significant qualifications - has suspended any action on the list of proposed sanctions. But the Administration could very well reconsider should Israel fail to implement the Road Map over the next few months.
