Prime Minister Ariel Sharon today will confer with senior ministers ahead of his scheduled Saturday night meeting with PA Prime Minister Machmoud ("Abu Mazen") Abbas. Officials in the Prime Minister's Office insist that the meeting on Saturday night will only deal with security issues. Following that meeting, on Sunday, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will depart for Washington for a meeting with US President George W. Bush. The two will discuss the "Road Map" plan following the recent visit to Israel and neighboring Arab countries of US Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Senior IDF commanders in Gaza point out that Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Abu Mazen does not appear to have taken any significant action towards stopping PA terrorism. An Israeli woman was injured last night by PA gunmen as she passed by the community of N'vei Tzuf, and other Israeli motorists have come under similar attacks in the past 24 hours. While IDF troops continue operating in PA-controlled Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza, Major-General Doron Almog pointed out that Abu Mazen's forces could be working to stop the rocket attacks from Gaza, but they have not done so. Military and intelligence sources add that Yasser Arafat continues to orchestrate attacks from his Mukata headquarters in Ramallah.
