Teaching Children To Kill Themselves
Is the PLO telling its own audience in Arabic what its eloquent spokesmen are saying to the Western media in English? The answer is no, as can be seen in a recent TV interview documented by Palestinian Media Watch www.pmw.org.il).

Four days ago, Palestinian Authority TV broadcast an interview with the Director of the Palestinian Children's Aid Association, Firial Hillis. Mrs. Hillis, seen seated next to two pre-school children, with more in the audience, explains that Arab children in the PA are educated to believe in Death for Allah - known in Arabic as "Shahada."

Itamar Marcus, Director of Palestinian Media Watch, noted that Arab leaders repeatedly deny that their media educates towards "martyrdom" in combat against Israel. "In their own Arabic language media, however," he says, "they continue to see encouraging children to Shahada as a national achievement."

The following is the text of the above Palestinian Authority Television interview. [Click here to view the TV interview]

Journalist Samir Shahin: "The children only wanted to leave [school] and throw stones at the Israeli soldier, and to reach Shahada [Death for Allah]. They aspired to Shahada as a first priority."

Moderator: "Mrs. Firial, in your opinion, does the Palestinian child understand the concept of Shahada?"

Firial Hillis, C.E.O. of the Palestinian Children's Aid Association: "The concept of Shahada for him [the child] means belonging to the homeland, from a religious point of view. Sacrifice for his homeland. Achieving Shahada in order to reach Paradise and to meet his God. This is the best. We also teach our children to protect the homeland, belonging and to reach Shahada."
