Arab terrorism against the Jews of Israel continued over the past day, as has the Israeli war to counter it. Several attempted attacks were either prevented by security forces or failed to achieve their aims for other reasons.

Last night, two terrorists were detected near the greenhouses of the southern Gush Katif community of Morag. Soldiers fired at the infiltrators and took off in pursuit, as the Arabs retreated to PA-controlled territories. One of two terrorists was killed by the IDF forces, but the second managed to escape.

In Gush Etzion, near Karnei Tzur, a bus was hit by terrorist gunfire on Thursday night. There were no injuries in the shooting, although the bus was damaged. Other vehicles, traveling near the community of Ofrah and on the Hussan bypass road near the community of Beitar, were targeted by Arabs in stone-throwing attacks. There were no injuries reported. In southern Gaza last night, Arab terrorists fired a mortar at an unspecified target. There were no reports of injuries.

Yesterday, an Arab male boarded a bus at Ra'anana Junction, in the Sharon valley, carrying a suspicious bag. When the driver began to question him, he fled in the direction of Kfar Saba, not waiting to take his change. A short time later, police apprehended the suspect, who had no identification papers. No additional information was available as of press time.

On the military front, an IDF position near the Gaza community of Ganei Tal was targeted by gunfire. Also in Gaza, gunfire and grenades were directed at soldiers near the border with Egypt. There were no injuries in the attacks.

During counter-terrorism operations during the night, IDF troops apprehended two Hamas commanders in Qalkilya. One of the commanders, Riad Hutri, is tied to a myriad of terrorist attacks. In addition, IDF troops arrested thirteen other PA residents, suspected of taking part in terrorist activities, throughout Judea and Samaria. The Bethlehem home of a Tanzim terrorist who was shot and killed while trying to perpetrate a suicide bombing attack in Efrat last year was destroyed by the IDF during the night.

In foreign terrorism news, authorities in Germany arrested five Moslems who were working to recruit local Arabs for terrorist attacks. Police in Berlin have raided several buildings in connection with the terrorist threat, including at least one mosque.
