Palestinian Authority (PA) “health minister” Mai al-Kaila said on Monday that the spread of the coronavirus in the Hebron area has "gotten out of control" following the rapid rise in the number of cases and deaths.

According to PA data, more than 150 new cases of coronavirus are detected daily in the Hebron area.

The public in Hebron has been calling on the PA to take more significant steps to curb the spread of the virus.

So far, 4,786 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in PA territories, 665 have recovered, 8 are in serious condition and 21 have died from complications of the disease.

Recently, after the easing of a previous coronavirus lockdown in late May, al-Kaila said the PA had entered a second wave of infections "more dangerous than the first".

Last week, the PA announced a five-day lockdown across areas of Judea and Samaria under its control after a rise in coronavirus infections.

On Sunday, PA chairman Mahmoud Abbas renewed the state of emergency for another 30 days.
