Experts warn: 500 COVID-19 deaths in August

Ben Gurion University team warns of soaring death toll if spread of coronavirus is not brought under control in the coming weeks.

A team of experts from Ben Gurion University warned that without new restrictions, the rise in coronavirus morbidity would lead to tens of thousands of new cases within a few weeks.

According to the experts, 1,000 patients will be in serious condition and 500 will die in August if the spread of the disease is not brought under control. The lack of a rise in the number of serious cases is an "optical illusion," the experts told Kan News.

The Health Ministry reported Sunday that 800 new coronavirus cases were diagnosed in Israel yesterday, The total number of coronavirus patients in Israel since the beginning of the pandemic has risen to nearly 30,000. There are currently 11,189 active coronavirus patients in Israel. 86 patients are in serious condition, 29 of whom are on ventilators. The death toll stands at 330.

78 patients are in moderate condition, and 335 patients are hospitalized. 1,815 medical staff are in isolation. Of the active cases, 1,286 are students and teachers.

16,342 coronavirus tests were performed yesterday, 4.9% came back positive.
