The Gush Etzion second annual Bible and Heritage competition was held Sunday. Even with the complexities of hosting the event during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the municipality decided to hold the contest, which was held in the local sports gymnasium, in accordance with the government guidelines.

Dr. Avshalom Kor, the host of the World Bible quiz, hosted this year’s event, in which students from all of the educational institutions in Gush Etzion were participants, including some who took part via Zoom.

In addition to questions in regard to the Bible, the competition focused on the heritage of Gush Etzion, in order to connect the children of the Gush to their homes. There was also a focus on the establishment of the State of Israel, and the return to the Gush following the Six Day War.

Congratulations to Eitan Giladi from the Orot Etzion school who took first place, with Yonatan Kahane also from Orot Etzion in second, and Eyal Shvut from the Reishit School in third.

Gush Etzion Regional Council Head Shlomo Ne’eman attended the event, and congratulated the winners, saying, “These are days in which we are about to apply sovereignty to parts of our country. The application of sovereignty represents the removal of question marks about the future of the Nation of Israel in the region. The only reason the issue of our rights to Judea and Samaria has become a question mark is because of a disconnect to our roots. The Bible and Heritage Completion is a crucial tool which ensures that the next generation will have self-confidence in its role and mission of settling and connecting to our country.”
