Renowned educator and writer Rabbi Nachman Bulman passed away after a severe illness on Saturday night in Jerusalem. Thousands of people took part in the late-night funeral. Recognized as \"one of the leading Jewish thinkers and writers in our generation,\" in the words of his colleagues at Jerusalem\'s Yeshivat Ohr Somayach, where he served as Mashgiach and Dean of Students, he was at the forefront of Jewish education in Israel and America for over four decades. Rabbi of American communities for close to 25 years, he founded institutions such as Yeshiva of Far Rockaway, an elementary school in Danville, Virginia, and the Sarah Shenirer High School in Boro Park, NY, as well as having a hand in founding the Jewish Observer monthly. When he moved to Israel over 20 years ago, he started the Kiryat Nachliel community in Migdal HaEmek, and later served as rabbi in N\'vei Yaakov, Jerusalem.



Rabbi Bulman has been described as \"a founder of the kiruv (outreach) movement,\" and his writings and translations, considered contemporary classics, include The Book of Our Heritage (Sefer HaToda\'ah) and Longing for Dawn. He is survived by his wife Sheindel, five children, over 25 grandchildren, and some 10 great-grandchildren.
