Diana Perchtman-Berger, a resident of Hadera, is evacuated three times a week in an Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance to the hospital to undergo dialysis treatment.

A senior paramedic at the MDA center, Ronit Galula, heard from Diana's granddaughter about her 81st birthday on Tuesday, and could not remain indifferent.

Galula, together with the ambulance team, paramedics Rafael Buhadana, May Yavetz and Sadi Bashar, who drive Diana regularly, decided to surprise her this morning with an exciting and unusual trip to the hospital including balloons, decorations and a bouquet of flowers.

"To enter an MDA ambulance that I am used to entering regularly, and to see it decorated and beautiful in my honor, was very exciting. I did not expect such a thing,” Diana said, telling the ambulance crew, “I'm happy that you came, but I did not imagine you would make me such a surprise."

MDA medic Rafael Buhadana described: "We adorned the ambulance, we sang Diana birthday songs, and we gave her flowers and a blessing we wrote her. It was very exciting. I have been at births and many exciting events in my job, and this is definitely one of the most special moments I have experienced. I felt like it was my grandmother, and that I was making her smile and enjoy on her birthday. Beyond our main task of saving lives, there is also tremendous satisfaction in making people happy."
