Elderly woman killed in Jerusalem fire

80-year-old woman killed fire in apartment in the Old City of Jerusalem.

An 80-year-old woman was killed early Sunday morning in a fire that broke out in an apartment on Al Mansuriya Street, near the Russian Church in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Magen David Adom paramedics reported that after the fire was extinguished by firefighters, the woman was found during a search of the apartment without signs of life. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other victims were found after the firefighters checked the building. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

MDA Paramedic Akiva Ehrlich said, "When we arrived at the scene, we saw thick smoke in a one-story building. The firemen rescued a woman about 80 years of age, with about 30% third degree burns. She was breathless and without a pulse. She was without signs of life and we pronounced her dead.
