The haredi city of Bnei Brak will now join other cities around Israel and give property tax discounts to residents that do reserve duty.

According to the new guidelines, residents who do 20 or more days of reserves within three years will be entitled to a 5% discount on the total property tax they must pay.

Kikar Hashabbat reports that Mayor Avraham Rubinstein had held off from instituting the discount over fears of infuriating the radically anti-IDF Yerushalmi Faction but was persuaded by the Shas faction to reverse his decision.

"It is important to pay tribute to the reservists who live in Bnei Brak, because they leave the families for many days and nights, under difficult conditions - which, of course, justifies the discount," said one Bnei Brak municipality member.
