The leadership of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the nation’s largest Orthodox Jewish umbrella organization, mourns the passing of President George H.W. Bush.

President Bush dedicated his professional life to the service of the United States and his personal life to building a remarkable family.

Over his career, which spanned posts including CIA Director, UN Ambassador, Vice President and President, Mr. Bush was a key leader in shaping American foreign policy.

We appreciate President Bush’s support for Israel’s security and his significant role in rescuing many thousands of Jews from the Soviet Union as well as from Ethiopia.

The Orthodox Union extends its deepest condolences to the Bush family.
