The police continue their investigation into last night's Jaffa shooting in which a 5-year-old boy was critically wounded and his grandfather was moderately injured.

According to medical sources, the situation of the two has stabilized. Police estimate the shooting was criminally motivated. Apparently an attempt was made to settle accounts between gangs and the 5-year-old boy was accidentally caught in the crossfire at the scene of the shooting.

Police issued a gag order on investigation details, and dozens of residents of the neighborhood where the shooting took place protested angrily against what appeared to be authorities' helplessness in the face of rising violence in Jaffa's neighborhoods.

Last night there was another shooting in the Arab sector that ended in death, when a young man was shot in the village of Ara in Wadi Ara.

He was rushed to the hospital after being critically wounded and there his condition worsened until doctors were forced to declare his death. Police are also investigating this incident.
