Rabbi Daniel Hershkowitz appointment approved

Cabinet approves appointment of former Science Minister to position of Civil Service Commissioner.

The Cabinet today approved the appointment of Rabbi Daniel Hershkowitz as Civil Service Commissioner.

Rabbi Hershkowitz, former Jewish Home Chairman and until recently Bar-Ilan University President was appointed by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.

Rabbi Prof. Hershkowitz served for many years as a faculty member of the Technion's Faculty of Mathematics and Dean of the Faculty. In 2008, Hershkowitz was elected to head the Jewish Home list and in 2009 was elected to the Knesset and appointed Science and Technology Minister.

In October 2013 he was elected President of Bar Ilan University and served for four years. At the beginning of March 2018, Hershkowitz was appointed by President Reuven Rivlin and at the recommendation of Science and Technology Minister Ophir Akunis and the government to serve as chairman of the National Council for Research and Development.

Since 2003, Hershkowitz has served as the rabbi of the Ahuza neighborhood in Haifa, and he teaches classes in Judaism in various communities in Haifa and around the world.
