Passersby who witnessed a serious traffic accident in northern Israel Tuesday morning and attempted to help victims at the scene of the accident were hit by a car in a second accident just moments after the first incident.

The two accidents occurred Tuesday morning at the East Akko Junction in northern Israel.

In footage of the second accident released by Netivei Israel, passersby who witnessed the first accident came to the aid of injured motorists – only to be run down after one of the cars at the junction suddenly sped up. Initial reports say the driver accidently pressed the gas pedal.

A total of five people were injured in the two back-to-back accidents, including one woman who suffered serious injuries, two people who suffered moderate-to-serious injuries, and two others listed in moderate condition.

The woman who suffered serious injuries was evacuated to Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center, while the four other victims were taken to the Galil Medical Center in Nahariya.
