Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu meet with President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner Sunday afternoon in Jerusalem as Israelis marked the 51st anniversary of the liberation and unification of the capital during the Six Day War in 1967.

Kushner arrived earlier on Sunday as part of a large US delegation representing the Trump administration at the unveiling of the new US embassy in Jerusalem.

The delegation includes Trump's daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan.

On Monday, the US embassy will officially be transferred to Jerusalem’s Arnona neighborhood, in the first step towards the full relocation of US embassy operations from Tel Aviv to Israel’s capital.

US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman’s office and some key staffers will be transferred to the new embassy as part of the move, while much of the embassy staff will remain at the Tel Aviv facility, which will be designated a consular office.

More staff members are expected to be transferred to the Jerusalem embassy next year, after State Department completes the expansion of the embassy. The US is expected to build a larger embassy somewhere in the city over the next few years to replace the Arnona facility.

The opening of the new embassy on Monday coincides with the 70th anniversary of Israel’s founding according to the Gregorian calendar, and comes one day after Israelis marked Jerusalem Day, celebrating the 51st anniversary since eastern Jerusalem was liberated from Jordanian occupation.
