One of the victims of the stabbing attack in Paris last night died of his wounds. There are four other wounded, two in serious condition and the other two in light condition.

The stabber was shot dead by police according to various reports from Paris. French Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said the deceased was a 29-year-old passerby. Collomb declined to give further details.

The murderer who was shot to death by police in the Opera district was a 20-year old Chechen national. According to eyewitnesses he shouted "Allahu Akbar" before the attack. ISIS claimed the attack was carried out by "one of its soldiers".

No documents were found on the stabber, and his parents were arrested for questioning.

French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted in response to the attack: "France has paid again with blood, but will not give an inch to the enemies of freedom."

The attacker began to stab passers around at 21:00 Paris time, on Rue Monsigny. Witnesses described him as a young man with brown hair and a beard, wearing black sweatpants.

Saturday's attack is the latest to strike France, which has been rocked by a series of Muslim attacks in the last three years that have killed more than 245 people.
