Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman (Yisrael Beytenu) on Friday refused to accept Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' apology for his anti-Semitic speech.

Abbas made his speech on Monday, apologizing on Friday afternoon after being heavily criticized by the US.

"Abu Mazen [Abbas - ed.] is a worthless Holocaust denier, who wrote a doctorate on Holocaust denial and then published a book on Holocaust denial," Liberman said. "That's the light we should see him in."

"His apology is not accepted."

In his speech, Abbas claimed the Holocaust was the result of the Jews' "social behavior," including money-lending, and not the result of anti-Semitism.

On Friday, his apology included a claim that he did not intend to insult anyone, as well as a condemnation of the Holocaust, which he termed "the most heinous crime in human history."
