The popular instant messaging application Telegram crashed last night, according to many Israeli and European users.

The application has gained strong momentum in Israel in the last two months, and is today estimated to serve about one million Israeli users.

Following the crash, many users in Israel are experiencing difficulties connecting to the application. Telegram announced it is a technical problem that is being dealt with.

Telegram's founder and CEO Pavel Durov announced in his Twitter account: "Massive overheating in one of the Telegram server clusters may cause some connection issues for European users within the next couple of hours. "

Dorov added: "Apologies for the inconvenience – the problem is being solved."
