U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday the United States will be doing "everything possible" to make his upcoming meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un a "worldwide success."

Speaking at a joint news conference with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Florida, Trump said he hopes to see the day when the two Koreas can live together in "safety, prosperity and peace."

Trump also confirmed a report from Tuesday that CIA Director and Secretary of State nominee Mike Pompeo met with Kim.

He said Pompeo had a "great meeting" in North Korea with Kim, adding that the two got along "really well, really great."

Tuesday’s report about the meeting between Pompeo and Kim came hours after Trump confirmed that the U.S. and North Korea have had direct talks at “extremely high levels”.

The U.S. has “started talking to North Korea directly,” Trump told reporters, adding, “We have had direct talks at very high levels, extremely high levels with North Korea.”

In March, Trump unexpectedly agreed to a meeting with Kim, to be held by the end of May. Kim last week acknowledged for the first time his country’s contacts with the United States.
