An IDF investigation following the publication of a sniper's video purportedly showing the shooting of an Arab rioter revealed that the video was filmed on December 22, during violent riots in the Kissufim area, and not during the recent riots which have characterized the 'Great March of Return' at the Gaza border.

Violent riots took place in Gaza, Judea, and Samaria following US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel.

According to the IDF's report, the video offers a brief documentation of the army's efforts to contain violent activity, which included stone-throwing,and sabotage attempts. The riots lasted for about two hours, during which many measures were taken to disperse the crowd, including public warnings and the firing of warning shots into the air.

The warnings went unheeded. During the riots, one of the demonstrators approached within a few yards of the security fence and was shot in the leg.

The video of the shooting was not taken from the position of the sniper, but by a soldier who was not involved in the fighting. After the completion of the full operational inquiry, the findings will be sent to the Military Advocate General's office for review.

The IDF stated: "As for the unauthorized photographing of an operational event, the distribution of the photographed material and the statements made there, it should be noted that these are not appropriate to the spirit and the degree of restraint expected of the IDF soldiers and [the individual who took the video] will be dealt with on the command level accordingly."
