Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein agreed that the Prime Minister will participate in the torch-lighting ceremony marking Israel's 70th Independence Day.

The Prime Minister will light a torch on behalf of successive Israeli governments. At the torchlighting event, the Prime Minister will address matters relating to the Declaration of Independence.

The Prime Minister also concluded with Minister Miri Regev that she will convene the Symbols and Ceremonies Committee before Independence Day to decide the torch will be lit every decade by the incumbent prime minister.

Regev had attacked Edelstein following his letter to Knesset Members in which he explained his intention to boycott the ceremony if the Prime Minister and President were invited to address it.
