Former Republican President George Bush voted Democrat in last year’s presidential election, the president revealed in an interview included in an upcoming book.

According to the book, The Last Republicans: Inside the Extraordinary Relationship Between George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush by Mark Updegrove, set to be published later this month, neither the 41st president nor the 43rd voted for the Republican nominee for president in 2016.

A review by The New York Times revealed this weekend that the elder President Bush (in office from 1989 to 1993) crossed party lines to vote for Hillary Clinton, the wife of his 1992 challenger.

The 41st President, George Herbert Walker Bush, also expressed a personal dislike for President Trump, calling him a “blowhard”.

“I don’t like him,” said Bush. “I don’t know much about him, but I know he’s a blowhard. And I’m not too excited about him being a leader.”

Bush’s son, the 43rd President (in office from 2001 to 2009) also declined to vote for Trump last year, but did not cast a ballot for his rival either, preferring “none of the above,” without elaborating precisely how he voted.
