An Israeli man from the northern Golan Heights was wounded Friday by gunfire emanating from the Syrian side of the border.

The man was lightly wounded and was treated at the scene.

An army spokesperson said the incident occurred in the Druze town of Majdal Shams near the Syrian border.

The IDF believes the incident was a case of stray gunfire which spilled over from the Syrian civil war into Israel.

“This was stray fire from heavy fighting taking place on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights,” a spokesperson said.

Army sources say fighting inside the Druze town of Hader has escalated on Friday. Due to the town’s proximity to Israel, the IDF is closely following developments in Hader.
