The Israeli Consul General in New York, Dani Dayan, took part over the weekend in a solidarity delegation that visited the city of Charlottesville, Virginia.

Speaking at Congregation Beth Israel in the city, Dayan said, "An anti-Semitic act, even if it takes place thousands of miles from Jerusalem, is an internal matter of the State of Israel."

"We must never allow the words 'never again' to become an empty cliché. 'Never again' is preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons that would threaten Israel, it’s fighting delegitimization aimed at wiping Israel off the map,” he continued.

“But 'never again' is first and foremost erasing the disgrace of Nazism from the face of the earth. When a Nazi flag is hoisted in the streets of Charlottesville, there is no room for any conditions. It must be fought as a supreme priority. The State of Israel stands with you, the Jewish community of Charlottesville, shoulder to shoulder in this battle,” stated Dayan.

“We will fight the neo-Nazis together with you because otherwise we will not fulfill our destiny as a Jewish state, as a state that arose on the ruins of the horror that the Nazis brought upon our people. We will stand with you shoulder to shoulder because an attack you is an attack on us. We will stand with you because we are brothers.”

Over Shabbat, Dayan met with the heads of the Jewish community in Charlottesville, and even spoke at length with the Jews who prayed in the synagogue.
