Israel Police on Thursday morning announced the arrest of well-known chef Rafi Cohen at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion Airport.

The chef left Israel in the midst of court proceedings against him. He was arrested upon arrival in Israel, and taken directly to the local police station.

The Tel Aviv Magistrate Court is expected to extend his arrest later on Thursday.

"Laws and their enforcement are one of the foundations of a democratic state," Israel Police said in a statement.

"Arresting the suspect upon his arrival in Israel is one more example of how Israel Police work determinedly to bring criminals to justice."
