Stockholm, Sweden is in lockdown after a policeman was stabbed by an attacker a short while ago in Medborgarplatsen, one of the city’s largest squares.

The UK’s Express reported, citing officials, that the policeman had been stabbed on the stairwell of the square’s metro station, and that eyewitnesses had reported on social media that the attacker “snuck up behind the policeman” and stabbed him “unprovoked.”

The attacker was reportedly subdued and arrested by a colleague of the policeman.

The report said that a manhunt was underway, and that the square and a nearby nursery have been sealed off.

According to Stockholm police, “We have a policeman who has been hurt at Medborgarplatsen.”

“We have a number of patrols.”

According to Sweden's The Local, A preliminary investigation into the incident has been launched, and the officer's injuries are "not life-threatening." Stockholm Police said it was "calm at the scene" while witness testimonies were being heard.

Swedish Public broadcaster SVT said that an officer told it the attacker is "a man known in the area."
