The Chief Rabbinate of Israel has begun the process of revoking the rabbinic ordination of former Chief Rabbi Yona Metzger, who was convicted of bribery offenses, reports Walla! news.

The rabbinate's legal advisor, attorney Harel Goldberg, wrote a letter to the rabbi's lawyers saying that "we are currently examining the revocation of the various rabbinical qualifications given to him by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel."

The former Chief Rabbi admitted to taking bribes totaling millions of shekels, as well as tax offenses.
