A 19-year-old haredi girl from Jerusalem was severely injured while vacationing in Tiberias on Thursday morning.

The young woman was crossing the street with her aunt when a passing taxi hit her hard, causing a head injury.

Magen David Adom paramedics administered first aid and transferred the victim by helicopter to Haifa's Rambam Hospital in serious condition. The victim's aunt suffered shock, and was treated at the scene.

United Hatzalah Tiberias Director Yossi Akunin said, "When I arrived at the scene together with other paramedics on ambucycles, we administered first aid to a young woman who had been severely injured by a taxi. The victim was taken by helicopter to Rambam Hospital in Haifa. She suffers from wounds and injury to her head."

The taxi driver was taken to the local police station for interrogation.

On Wednesday, a truck driver caught driving on the wrong side of the road was found to have committed over 100 traffic offenses. In 2016, 372 people were killed in road accidents, representing the third rise in three years.
