President Reuven Rivlin decided today (Sunday) to reject former President Moshe Katzav's request to cancel the terms of his release.

In his reply, the president clarified that the parole board ordered Katsav's release only subject to restrictive conditions and a complex rehabilitation plan that would remain in effect until the end of his official prison term in December 2018.

The President's office noted that in these circumstances and in view of the nature of the offenses, there is no basis for responding to the request to cancel these strict conditions.

Katsav was convicted of sex crimes against three complainants and obstruction of justice, and was sentenced to seven years in prison, probation, and payment of compensation to the complainants.
